What is Fax over IP?
Fax over IP refers to the process of sending and receiving faxes over an IP network instead
of the public telephone network (PSTN). The key benefit of sending faxes in this manner is that
it saves tremendous amounts of money on long-distance charges. When a user sends a fax over IP,
a fax machine transmits the image data as packets through the public Internet instead of over
the public telephone network (PSTN). If a fax-over-IP server ever needs to interconnect with
the PSTN, it is only for the local leg of a call. For a call to any location connected directly
to the IP network, there is no telephone charge at all, not even a local charge.

What is the Packet8 Fax Plan?
Packet8 Fax is a real time VoIP Fax service which utilizes the T.38 standard fax protocol to deliver a more reliable IP fax service. T.38 is an ITU (International Telecommunication Union) recommendation for the transfer of real-time fax communications between two terminal endpoints via an IP network.
Not only will Packet8 Fax services work with all fax machine brands, they also cost less than a separate fax line from a landline phone company. Subscribers receive 300 minutes of outgoing faxes plus unlimited incoming faxes for just $9.99 per month with a one-time fee of $29.99 for activation of an additional terminal adapter provided to the subscriber at no charge. How do I add Fax
service to my current Packet8 account?
If you are a current Packet8 residential subscriber, go to www.packet8.net and
select Freedom Fax plan. Enter your
existing Packet8 username at the checkout to complete the order. Packet8 business services
subscribers can either go to http://www.packet8.net/, click on "Business Plan"
and select Fax Extension plan or log onto the Customer Self Service portal,
click Add-On Services, select the desired fax plan and associate it to an existing Virtual Office
IP-PBX extension/service port.

If I am currently
not a Packet8 subscriber, can I order Packet8 Fax Service?
Yes. In this instance, you would select the Freedom Fax Service
found under "Residential Service Plans."
If you are a business subscriber, you can either go to
www.packet8.net and click on "Business Plan" and select Fax Extension plan or
log onto the Customer Self Service portal, click Add-On Services, select the
desired fax plan and associate it to an existing Virtual Office IP-PBX
extension/service port.
